- The next project is the purchase and installation of new lighting for the Cross.
- Secondly, the site plan, as outlined below, will be completed in two phases and will be in coordination with the Paver Program. You may click on each drawing below to enlarge the image.
The fundraising needed to complete each of these projects will be done sequentially in the order listed and is now underway.
The overall idea of these improvements will be to create a garden area around the base of the Bald Knob Cross of Peace which will include:
- Four (4) walkway paths which will be made from memorial paver bricks on the ground in the exact same size and shape of the Cross itself (111 feet tall by 63 feet wide at the Cross arms) and each facing due North, South, East and West as do the four faces of the Cross structure itself (Begins in Phase 1, mostly Phase 2).
- A concrete inner walkway pathway immediately adjacent to and encircling the Cross to complete a circle in the areas not covered by the four (4) paver brick crosses (Phase 1).
- A small wall and a walkway encircling the outside of the Cross which can be used as seating for people either wanting to face the Cross or face outwards and take in the majestic views of the Illinois Ozark mountains and the surrounding area from one of the highest elevations with the best views in Illinois (Phase 2).
